A school with only 1 student

Sept 1 is the official school opening day in mainland China. Many pupils will happily grab their school  bags and flock to the joyful headquarter of buddies and games. However, that is not the case for 6 years old girl Liu Xinyi, whose first day of school was greeted by no playmate other than the one and only teacher in the school.

In a rural village of Enshi City, Hubei Province, more and more peasants have no other ways of making a living but to migrate to the city for work, bringing away with them their children. The local school has been suffering from student shortage since 2008, with average attendant of less than 10.

  1. Although she may feel alone now, I’m sure she’s going to be well-educated by the end of the school. One-on-one teaching is great.

  2. Congratulations! The future reserves the best for a country where education is national value.
