Two female urban management officers fight on street, netizens make fun

"城管Chengguan" (Urban management officer) is officer who is in charge of enforcement of urban management of the city. This can cover a wide range of affairs, such as environment, city appearance bylaws, pollution control and so on. Yet for some reasons, chengguans perceived as gang members with badges are mostly associated with city appearance bylaws alone and the public seems to have a rather negative opinion towards them: confiscating poor street vendors’ goods, violent treatment to the street vendors, etc. The clashes between common people and chengguan constantly happen and some of these clashes are deadly.

Yesterday in Chong Qing province, two female Chengguans fought each other in the street and has attracted quite a crowd at the scene. The local urban management office later responded to the incident saying, “They (two female Chengguans) had caused damage to the team’s image. I don’t think they are suitable for such a job anymore.” Later the photos of the fight was posted online and become viral.

Other male Chengguans tried to separate the two female Chengguans.

There has been a public outcry against Chengguan’s violence for years and news of violence committed by Chengguans is nothing new. Yet, for the first time, two Chengguans fought in the street and people seem to be quite entertained by it. Alone in one post in 163.com, more than 30 thousand netizens have commented. I’ve translated some of the comments as below:
