“There is a pair of eyes rolled behind every Five Stripe Boy”. “Five Stripe Boy” (五道杠少年) Huang Yibo incident had a new attraction. In some pictures of Huang Yibo studying in the classroom, a classmate of his sitting behind was looking at him scornfully with his lips curled. “Brother Scorn” became popular on the internet and was soon photo-shopped to various images. Netizens called him “the most real boy”. The video was from Dragon TV, which spread like a wild fire on microblogs. “Five Stripe Boy” incident was becoming like a “carnival’” on the Internet.

These days, “Five Stripe Boy” Huang Yibo became famous on the internet. His adult-like expression and behaviors were the hottest topic. His parents were criticized too. But a new attraction appeared on microblogs because of him yesterday. People focused on a classmate sitting behind and next to Huang Yibo in a picture because the classmate was looking at Huang Yibo scornfully with his lips curled. The picture was forwarded on microblogs crazily, “He shined! Brother Scorn shined!” “The king of expression, the king of scorn, the king of rolled eyes…”

The picture was from a program of Dragon TV, a reporter of Chengdu Evening news found the interview “Controversial Huang Yibo” of Dragon TV on the Internet. The 3 pictures were captured in the last 3 seconds of the video. Netizens noticed that there was only Huang Yibo wearing a red scarf which was a bit of ridiculous, it was obliviously edited. The back of each student’s chair was wooden, but it seemed that one student sitting near Huang Yibo had an office chair. People questioned whether the video was a publicity stunt.

The keyword “Brother Scorn” (不屑哥) became popular within several hours, and even more than “Five Stripes”. “Red scarf” and “General Chief”, topped the list of hot words on mircoblogs. Netizens forward the pictures and called him “the most real boy”: His expression was classic, naïve and honest. That was the expression of a child.

A netizen (“忍者泡泡兵”) said, “I would become the king of scorn if I sit there.” “小黑Wayne” said, “That was naked envy and hate. These students reflected human nature.” Some scoffed him, “He was unhappy to be an extra.” Many netizens appreciated him “I prefer Brother Scorn than the Five Stripe boy to achieve success in the future!” “微笑我不是小贝”said, “I saw innocence on his face.”

The host of Jiangsu TV Meng Fei forwarded the pictures too. He thought Brother Scorn is “real”. The writer Ning Chaishen wrote a dialogue for the boy: “hmm (哼).” The chief editor of New Weekly Feng Xincheng praised, “Very good.”

As “Brother Scorn” was popular, the “Five Strokes Boy” incident started to change direction, people started to make fun of them instead of criticizing the way Huang’s parents educate him.

First, the pictures of “Brother Scorn” were photo-shopped with many kinds of haircuts and subtitles: “May I exchange my life for your five stripes?” The lyrics of the children’s song, School Boy (读书郎) were changed, “The little boy hangs five strikes on his shoulder…”

Some people made business opportunities out of this. Taobao.com had “Five Stripes” armbands for sale, “Taking orders now, General Chief Huang’s 1:1 standard edition, the feeling of the three stripe armband in your childhood” Prices varied was from 1 yuan to 10 yuan. The highest was 888 yuan. Some advertisements said, “Artifacts!!! Have you seen five stripes? Domineering exposes, dazzle your eyes! Remember, not all general chiefs have five stripes!” An online store called itself “Five Stripes Shopping Street”, and sold various kinds of products with five stripes such as T-shirts, sneakers, socks, ties and even sofa covers…

Some people took the view that most of netizens spoofed in this event but ignored the criticism “the warning significance of Huang’s parents’ utilitarian education”. Everyone was having fun on the Internet and seldom criticized Huang’s parents. Huang Yibo’s microblog didn’t update and all articles on his blog were deleted.

  1. Do the one about Lin Miaoke’s possible fake chest next to explain the Photoshopped tie-ins.

Some of these Photoshops really are lame. Photoshop spoofs can basically be funny for two major reasons: because they either 1)look craaaaazy or 2)Offer some kind of amusing reference or commentary. Crap like the Titanic job or Prison Break jobs don’t appear to deliver on either and are just weak. Not even technically proficient.
