[Sina] Just when the Chinese original cartoon “Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf” being praised and awarded, CCTV children’s channel started showing another “original made” cartoon “Window of Sprits” (that’s how I translate the name(“心灵之窗”), but was criticized for plagiarizing! Netizens posted posts with the titles like “Being a man cannot be like CCTV” on forums accusing “Window of Sprits” plagiarized a famous Japanese Cartoon “5 Centimeters per Second”.

Whether the is character model, or the background scenery, they are 90% similar! Netizens sighs in unison “It is hopeless, Chinese Cartoon plagiarizes to this extend…” The maker of this cartoon Lanhai Technology spokesman refuses to be interviewed. CCTV says they know nothing about this at all.

August 22nd, “Window of Sprits” started showing CCTV children’s channel. The Story is heartwarming and interesting and also talks about last year’s Wenchuan earthquake, viewing rating is no less than “Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf”. However netizens recently pointed out this cartoon is extremely similar to the famous Japanese cartoon “5 Centimeters per Second”. Pictures from both cartoons were posted for comparison.

See them for yourself, from the panoramic view of the city to character’s posture, hairstyle, clothing and even one of the main character are almost exactly the same between the two films. This cartoon is supposed to teach children about morality, “but the maker of the cartoon did not even have the basic ethical values, how do you teach kids to be honest?”

This is not the first time CCTV was accused of plagiarizing Japanese cartoon. July of this year Netizens already exposed “China made” cartoon “Big Mouth Dudu” (大嘴巴嘟嘟) being a copy of famous Japanese Cartoon “Crayon Shin-chan

Experts say reason for plagiarizing is to cut cost.  If the plot is different, but characters and backgrounds are changed and modified then it is not plagiarizing.  With over all similarity over 70% is definitely plagiarizing.

  2. Poor excuses from a lazy story board designer

At least they didn’t copy everything, looks like progress

  3. I love how they think it might be bad to knock off cartoons, but when it comes to obtaining by all means advanced Western technology then it doesn’t get reported and is rather generally approved of. Talk about focusing attention where it doesn’t matter!

  4. Happy Sheep and Gray Wolf is great!

Another Chinese-made cartoon, which I would recommend and don’t think is plagiarizing anything Japanese, is Red Cat and Blue Rabbit.

  5. If you look closely, You can see the Chinese animators had used the same exact images as 5 CM per second. But just blurred areas of the background and alter some colours.

    Wow this is really pathetic.

  6. Nice level of information here. There is so much information around about this issue that from time to time you cannot see the wood for the trees but you have pitched this at entirely the correct level so that the lay person can comprehend – thank you!
