Nominated for Best Unproduced Screenplay at Australia’s 2008 Inside Film Awards, RED LIGHT REVOLUTION is the first feature film centered on China’s multitude of adult stores, and the everyday people who run them. RED LIGHT REVOLUTION follows a luckless Beijinger who risks it all to open a shop, sparking a sexual revolution in his conservative neighborhood.

The film stars Zhao Jun, Vivid Wang, Jiang Xiduo, Masanobu Otsuka ("City of Life and Death", "Tiananmen"), Tess Liu ("The Karate Kid"), Tian Huimin ("Mao’s Last Dancer"), and Ji Qing ("Gasp"). The film is written & directed by Sam Voutas (actor, "City of Life and Death", "Empires of the Deep"). Cinematography is by Wang Yifan.

In the film, the Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid who has appeared in the film "The day after tomorrow" about disasters, "Phoenix Robbery" and "The Assassination of Positions", plays as a western police who just lost his wife. He investigated a serial murder alone and found out that Ziyi ZHANG was related to the case. Ziyi ZHANG plays as an oversea Chinese girl Kristen, with a delicate and touching appearance. However she was suspected to be the killer and soon put in prison. In prison, she started the psychological battle with the police played by Dennis Quaid.

"Sexy photos" bold undisguised

Ziyi ZHANG performed well in the film, but two of the scenes in the film brought out controversy debates. One scene is during a detective process of tracing the case, a pile of nude and sexy photos of Ziyi ZHANG were displayed. Ziyi ZHANG was violated in the photos. She looked warn and haggard. Despite not fully exposing her body, but the film’s close-ups clearly shows her gesture is rather bold undisguised. She was named as the new "Sexy Photo Girl". Chinese audiences who have watched the film feel dissatisfied with Ziyi ZHANG’s "Kneeling down to foreigners" in the film. They have accused her of embarrassing and "humiliating our contry". Although it is only a short scene in the film, as an international star, she "enslaved" herself in a foreign film. This provokes the "humiliating China" Criticism again! A lot of Netizens said that although Ziyi ZHANG is only acting “kneeling down” in the film, it implies another meaning when she kneels down in front of foreigners.

Hopelessly to pass the review screening in mainland China

Reporter called the person who is in charge of the ZHANG’s mainland businesses yesterday (24^th), but the phone call never went through. Some viewers said that, "From the point view of a movie fan, this is only a plot of a drama; it is not the behavior of Ziyi ZHANG. Since it is only a film role and a part of plots, she does not humiliate China." Memorial Held For Yu LEE, Bingbing LEE (李冰冰) Wails At See-off

The memorial service of the young actress, Yu LEE, who performed as Yu FANG (方瑜) in the drama of “Romance in the Rain”, was held in the morning of March 18th in Beijing. Her classmates from the Shanghai Theatrical Academy, Bingbing LEE, Quan REN (任泉) and others came to “see-off” their friend for the last part of the road. “Er Hao” Xin GAO (“尓豪”高鑫), Lan YANG (杨澜), Hong WENG (翁虹), Houlin LEE were among many other actors who attended. Yu WANG (汪雨), Yu LEE’s boyfriend, accompanied Lee’s mother.

Yan HE, Yu LEE’s teacher, who arrived early in the morning, said, that except for Zhibo FAN (范智博), who is currently performing in a drama, all Grade ’93 classmates of the Shanghai Theatrical Academy would be seeing-off Yu LEE for the last part of the road. At 9am, after the arrivals of Quan REN, Bingbing LEE, Xiaohu LIU, Lin LEE, the memorial service formally began. Bingbing LEE, who was dressed in black and without makeup, declined to talk and could not control her crying. Xin GAO revealed in an interview that his mother was Yu LEE’s class sponsor of the Theatrical Academy, so they knew each other for a long time. Even though he knew that Yu LEE had been ill, he did not understand the specific condition until he learned of her death. The news came to him the day after she died and was a sudden shock.

In addition, Lan YANG, Hong WENG, Houlin LEE, Guoqiang ZHANG, Siyi WANG (visit her blog), Quan LEE and Gao SHU were some of many entertainment business friends who attended. ZHANG said that he had talked with Yu LEE on the phone before the new year, at which time, she had been already in the hospital. “I got the news on the same day she passed away…She is a very sweet, very dedicated girl.”, said ZHANG. but the choosing of the actress to be on the poster has its reasons. The French uses Zhao Tao’s image on the film “24 city” reason being Zhao Tao is red hot among the French fans. Ever since the film “Platform” Zhao already has four of her starting film showing in France. “Unknown Pleasures” and “24 city” already twice send her to the Festival De Cannes’ red carpet. You can say Zhao Tao is definitely more popular than Chen Chong in France. Many of the France brands also worked with her on their products.

It brings back the memory of the economic restructuring time. From this angle, the film “24 city” has more social meaning. It looks like U.S. publishers did not use popularity of the actresses, rather uses the content itself to attract the viewers. It is rather socking considering their famous celebrity culture.
