Jackie Chan always seems to be in the center of the controversies. He had just caused uproar with his Twitter statement of “Support for Filipino Police” post the Manila Incident and became the “Disgrace of Hong Kong” (香港之耻). Now he is questioned for his empty promise of a donation to rebuild Beichuan Middle School after the 2008 Wenchun earthquake.

(Netease) On September 1, 2010, the new Beichuan Middle School is officially open for the new school term. Beichuan middle school was destroyed during the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. Three years later and with the rebuild funding of 200 million yuan entirely donated by various fellow Chinese citizens as well as overseas Chinese, Beichuan Middle School finally hosted the school-opening ceremony on the newly constructed school campus. However the grand opening of Beichuan Middle School again triggered questions towards Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan’s (promised) donation.

On May 11, 2009, Hong Kong artist Jackie Chan, Li Yuchun, Liu Yuanyan, Peter Kam and others visited Beichuan Middle School. Jackie Chan also pledged to donate part of the box office of his new movie “Little Big Soldier” to the reconstruction of Beichuan Middle School. (Published on Hong Kong “WenWei Po” May 12, 2009)

February 14, 2010 "Little Big Soldier" premieres. A month later, "Little Big Soldier" made 153 million yuan in the mainland box office.

Responsible for the reconstruction of the new Beichuan Middle School, China Overseas Chinese Economic and Cultural Foundation told Shanghai Overseas Chinese Newspaper, “We have not received any donation money which he promised. We also sent a letter to Mr. Chan and asked about his commitment to this charity event, but he has not yet responded.”

The reporter phoned Liu Yachun and asked whether Jackie Chan had promised to donate to the school on that day. Liu Yachun muttered for a moment then answered clearly, “Yes, but we never received the money”.

Could it be an anonymous donation? Reporter contacted The Secretary-General of the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation. She thought about it for a moment and told the reporter, “We did not seem to have donated any money to Beichuan Middle School project.”

After Jackie Chang’s statement of “Support for Filipino Police” on Twitter post the Manila Incident which was heavily criticized by international netizens especially people of Hong Kong, General Manager of Jackie Chan Film Group China office, Yuan Nong’s cell phone became not reachable, and soon the number has been deactivated. According to the “Little Big Soldier” official website, Yuan Nong is the producer of the film and is responsible for Jackie Chan’s charity works.

Singer from “the first lip synching case in China” attempts suicide

Remember her? I posted a funny video of the singer having her microphone backwards, lip syncing a song a couple of months back. It turned out, this singer named Fang Ziyuan was later charged for lip synching by the authority which makes it “the first lip synching case in China”.

(Netease) Last night, Beijing star agent A-Long told the reporter that the singer from “the first nation lip synching case” attempted suicide by cutting her wrist in her rental apartment in Beijing. Luckily, her roommate discovered her and sent her to the hospital, currently she is still in a coma. Reporter then tried to confirm the news with Fang’s agent Huang Hong. Huang Hong confirmed that Fang attempted suicide but was unwilling to discuss the reason.

Fang Ziyuan, 21 years old, learning dancing in Chengdu at an early age, graduated from Shanghai Film Academy specializing in performing, in 2009, she went to Beijing. September 19 of last year, during the “I am most popular this year” Huang Shengyi Concert at the Shuangliu International Tennis Center, she was investigated and prosecuted on suspicion of lip synching. Thus she became the first person being prosecuted by the law enforcement for lip synching in Mainland China. April of this year she was fined 50,000 yuan. April 4, CCTV’s “Today Saying” program talked about the case investigation process in details.

A-Long is a famous celebrity star agent in Beijing. “Fang Ziyuan and I are neighbors. At the time I was resting at home. Fang’s roommate suddenly knocked on my door, ‘hurry, help Fang Ziyuan, she attempted suicide!’ I went over immediately and saw Fang Ziyuan lying in the bathroom, blood streaming down from her wrist. I helped her up and wrapped her wrist with a towel, then rushed her into the elevator and sent her to the hospital.” Long said, Fang had 2 cuts on her wrist, one deep and one shallow. Due to excessive blood loss, up till 7pm last night, Fang was still unconscious. A-Long speculated the reasons of suicide maybe because of the brutal competition being a “Beijing vagabond”, plus the lip synching incident also gave her tremendous pressure.

Traffic police lined up waiting under the hot sun for leader to wipe their sweat

August 10, 2010, a well-known Chinese blogger Zhang Hongfeng wrote a blog post titled “Wiping Sweat Gate: traffic police lined up under the hot sun for half an hour waiting for political commissar to wipe their sweat”, the article spread on the internet like a wild fire right after it was posted, in less than one day there were over 1,600 posts about “wiping sweat gate” on Sina micro-blog alone, and with over 500 comments. Most people on the internet think it was just a performance the leader has put up.

Zhang Hongfeng’s comments: The policeman who exposed the news asked me to look at the picture on “Yangtze Daily”, said that picture clearly showed the police were lined up and waiting for the political commissar to wipe their sweat. “Wiping Sweat Gate” was the name the policemen came up with to talk among themselves as a joke in order to vent their dissatisfactions. I looked at the picture carefully, this policeman indeed “has the picture that tell the truth”. When the political commissar was wiping sweats, should he think about the feelings of the frontline police officers? If he really cared about his police subordinates, how can he let them line up and wait for him in the heat? If he really take good care of his police subordinates, why not randomly go on the street to send them water and wipe their sweat?

Sometimes a “show” becomes a fraud, this fraud really hurts the police at the front line, and it only benefits the “glorious media image” of the political commissar. Front line police became the “props” of the political commissar’s self-publicity, and became the background of his “glorious image”.

1. When Wuhan police was interviewed, they said the police did not wait for half an hour, they got together in one minute through calling station.

Whether if they waited half an hour or not, I am not able to verify, but I contacted the police who exposed this, he said because of the high temperatures recently, there is only one traffic police on duty in each district. According to the current situation of traffic police on duties, you don’t see group of traffic police on duty together. So Let me ask, how did these policemen all show up at one place in one minute? They can fly?

Moreover, the question was why Mr. political commissar made his police subordinates all line up so he can wipe their sweat.

2. On the newspaper, it said photo by Zheng Xiaoping (郑小平) and Huang Jinming (黄进明), after researching, according to Chutian Metropolis Daily on 11/21/2007, Zheng Xiaopping is “the deputy section chief of the Wuhan Public Security Bureau Traffic Authority publicity department” and according to Hubei Daily on 3/19/2009, Huang Jinming is also one of the other “the deputy section chief of the Wuhan Public Security Bureau Traffic Authority publicity department”. 2 deputy section chiefs responsible for propaganda, bunch of media and also 2 other officers wearing white uniforms (senior officers), number of policemen lined up under the hot sun, how was this kind of grand event possibly not being pre-arranged? I write blogs, has always been very strict and careful about my information. The policeman who told me the story did not just meet me for the first time for this, we have had prior communication and exchanges, so I can confirm that he is a traffic police officer, but not some bystanders. Fake ATM in Beijing steals from bank customers

Recently, a shanzhai (fake) ATM appeared on the street of Xuanwu district, Beijing. Customers who used this “ATM” soon found that all their money in the bank account disappeared without a trace. Sina Reporter was told by the Beijing Police that the suspect Huang who set up the fake ATM was already arrested on the charge of credit card fraud. This is the first fake ATM case ever cracked in Beijing.

The fake ATM was set up in front of a cigarette shop at Xi Street, Xuanwu district in Beijing. Similar to the real ones, this machine was placed inside of a glass fronted room with a glass door at the corner of a building. According to the person who reported the crime, when user inserted his bank card into the machine the monitor screen displayed the message that ATM was out of service. And soon after, money in his bank account was all gone.

The fake ATM was already dismounted by the police and sent to the Beijing police department for technical investigations. Similar to the real ATM, the shanzhai ATM was decorated with words like “24 hours self-service” and logos of “VISA”, “MasterCard”, “UnionPay” etc. However if you pay closer attention, it is not difficult to spot many flaws.

Police Investigator said, “First of all it looks crudely made, as you can see here is some left-over glue. The slot where receipts supposed to come out is actually solid inside. It is just a metal plate glued onto the machine. And the slot where cash supposed to come out is also sealed shut, it is impossible to have cash come out of there. The overhead security camera is just a piece of plastic. And also there is no logo or name of any specific bank on the machine. Therefore citizens who keep on guard can easily notice that this is a fake ATM.”

Yesterday at 6pm, police arrested suspect Huang. 30-year-old, from Jilin, Huang admitted that he placed the fake ATM in front of a cigarette shop at Xi Street in Xuanwu district in order to commit credit card fraud. The fake ATM can automatically record user’s bank account and password etc. information. Based on the information, Huang then was able to withdraw money from these bank customers’ accounts. Currently the police are conducting further investigation on the origin of Huang’s fake ATM and his methods of committing the crime.

According to the information provided by Xiao Yu, yesterday morning, reporter contacted the “World Cup sick leave” doctor. Her cell phone number is 137XXXX1287.

This doctor said on the phone that she can produce various certificates of many hospitals in Beijing, including creating case of illness, diagnosis, certificate of hospitalization, hospital discharge certificate, doctor’s notes for sick leave and so on.

When the reporter requested a note for two weeks sick leave, she said, “recently, too many people are requesting for fake notes in order to watch the World Cup, we have to be careful when producing these notes. Usually it is based on customer’s actual situation, for example, this customer often suffers from inflammation, or this customer usually has back pain and other symptoms. We use these information to fill the diagnosis so that the leaders at work will not become suspicious.”

Two minutes later, the “doctor” sent over two screenshots via QQ, one of them is the diagnosis certificate from Capital Medical University Xuanwu Hospital, and the other is the sick leave certificate from the same hospital. The price was actually not cheap, 280 yuan each.

Reporter asked them if they can produce certificates of hospitals in Hangzhou. The answer was, “We cannot produce them, but the certificate of Beijing hospitals can be used all over the country.”

President Obama took questions from fake Chinese students at town hall meeting

There are already over 1,200 comments on Huang Lihe’s blog. All comments had more or less the same message which netizens are angry at Huang Lihe, calling him a 5 mao, asking him why lying to the public, pretending to be a student and how he could have done such despicable act.

I see no problem. If you check the official title of the news in Xinhuanet, it’s “Obama’s dialogue with Chinese Youth” not “Obama’s dialogue with Chinese students”.

Among the three names mentioned in the post, two of them are students and Huang Lihe didn’t say he’s a student in his question.

He is right. When Huang Lihe asked the question he said I am Tongji University’s Huang Lihe (我是同济大学黄立鹤) He didn’t say he is a student. Poor guy, now his blog comments are all deleted and comment is closed.

Perhaps Chinese Netizens are blowing this out of proportion.

AIDS Female Prostitute Blog was a Hoax

A blog supposedly written by a HIV-infected prostitute named Yan Deli (闫德利) exposing 279 of her “sex contacts” swept the internet and was heavily covered by the Chinese internet media. Later there were also reports on “the reason she did this was to find her fiancé”. However it turned out, all of it was just a hoax. The police have already been involved. They suspected Yan Deli’s ex-boyfriend was behind the incident.

Yan Deli in an interview said, she never have written anything on the internet, also was not previously interviewed by other media.

In order to prove her innocence, Yan Deli took three blood tests from three separate institutes, Center for Disease Control Rongcheng county, Center for Disease Control of Baoding city and National Center for Disease Control in Beijing. All test results were negative for HIV infections.

Reporter learned at Yan Deli’s hometown, since the beginning of June, the villagers continued to find printed materials with the title “Rongcheng county, Hebei Province number 1 prostitute Yan Deli” Materials filled with nasty photos, said Yan Deli was a prostitute in Beijing and exposed Yan Deli family’s detail information and telephone number. But Yan Deli said except for her family photo, all the other photos were computer generated.

Early Morning of August 26, Yan’s home was attacked by 2 beer bottles filled with gasoline and lit on fire. The window on the front door was also broken. Yan Deli and her family suspected that this series of events was carried out by her ex-boyfriend in Beijing. They hoped the hometown police could investigate these incidents.

[China Daily] ‘HIV prostitute’ blog is hoax cooked up by ex-lover: Police

An illicit blog that has swept the Internet and claims to tell the story of an "HIV-infected prostitute" is a sick hoax by an angry ex-boyfriend, police said yesterday.

The post, which featured 300 indecent pictures of Yan Deli, along with 279 cell phone numbers of "former clients", emerged last week and rapidly spread across the nation’s Web portals.

The post claims the 30-year-old was raped by her stepfather at 15 and had become a waitress at karaoke bars in Beijing, and that the cell numbers were published in revenge against society.

However, police in Yan’s native Rongcheng county, Hebei province, told China Daily yesterday that the blog had been written by the woman’s ex-lover – a married man from Beijing.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, had demanded 5,000 yuan ($730) from Yan when they split up but she refused, said a local police officer who declined to be named.

The man later told police the woman’s brother had attacked him, the officer said.

The suspect then returned to the capital and, using the cell numbers he had received at the Rongcheng county police station, began to send indecent pictures of Yan to several officers via SMS.

"We have kept those text messages and we will sue him for smearing our reputation," said the officer, whose number was one of those listed on the blog.

China Daily was unable to contact the suspect yesterday.

Yan denied ever posting a blog online and said she plans to have an HIV test to prove her innocence, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Saturday.

The local center for disease control has also requested she undergo a medical check, local police said.

The newspaper reported Yan gave the illicit photographs to her ex-boyfriend, and that most of the published numbers were her colleagues or friends on an old cell phone.

The woman’s mother told Beijing Youth Daily the incident has embarrassed the whole family and was quoted as saying: "The whole country knows about this. How can we live?"

She also dismissed any suggestion her daughter is a prostitute, and explained that she earned 2,000 yuan a month working in a Beijing restaurant.

About the rape allegations contained in the blog, Yan’s stepfather added: "Whatever is said about me, it doesn’t matter because I am old. But how can my daughter live with such rumors?"

Wang Jing, a Beijing lawyer, said that if the blog is real the author has broken privacy regulations. However, if it is a hoax, they have violated laws to protect people’s reputations.

This post could well be fake or a joke, but it made a ripple on the Chinese internet, and I thought it was funny and also had some truth to it. Here is the translation of the post:

Underground Factory Making Fake Brand Name Condoms

Unpackaged, bare condoms were directly placed in the fiber bags. Lubricants were stored in large oil drums. In this 20 square meters of workshop, condoms full of dust scattered all over the floor. Recently, Shaoyang City Drug Administration and public security law enforcement officers carried out a joint operation, raiding an underground factory for making and selling fake brand condoms. Police arrested four suspects and seized 40,000 boxes of condoms labeled with “Jissbon”, “Durex”, “Sixsex”, “Love Card”, “NOX” and “Rough Nider” 6 brands, and over 1,620,000 of unpackaged condoms, total value of 536,000 yuan.

This is by far is the largest case of manufacture and sale of fake medical devices in Hunan province.

This underground factory is located in three residential buildings. Production and processing is in the first building on the first floor; packaging areas is in the second building on the second floor; raw materials and storage area (warehouse) is in the third building second floor. The criminal organization hired 8 migrant workers to run the factory. Work hour is every day from 8 am to 6 pm, and group lunch at 12 pm.

After the investigation, suspect Li Anping (李安平), a farmer in a Shaoyang village, since March of this year started to rent houses and recruit workers. Without medical device manufacturing license, he illegally operated production of fake brand name condoms. Food and Drug Administration inspector in Shaoyang city told the reporter, according to Li Anping’s confession, his group has already sold over 40,000 boxes of various fake brands of condoms. (Up to 480,000 condoms)

As medical equipments, condoms are required to be produced in sterile environment. However the underground factory produced condoms with poor quality and were already sold to outside of the province. “They were mostly sold to most parts of Hunan, as well as Guangdong, Hubei and other places.” Inspector told the reporter that sales price is ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 yuan per box, averaging 2 yuan per box. Total illegal profit is about 80,000 yuan.

Chinese Company uses Obama in Advertisement, Fined 50,000

HSW.cn reported August 4, Xian (西安 city) in Shanxi province a real estate company uses Obama and other famous celebrities in their advertisement bill boards, was imposed a 50,000 yuan fine by the Xian Trade and Industry Bureau. Taobao Crack Down on “Rating Fraud”, Anti-Taobao Alliance Strikes Back

[NetEase] Since July 24^th, Taobao (ebay like online retail marketplace) started operation: “honesty self-inspection” and closed down over 12,000 stores suspected of serious “hype fraud” (hype up the product by give fake ratings and reviews). Many Taobao sellers questioned the reliability of the operation. Some sellers said that this action might have wrongfully closed down many honest sellers. Taobao said they will not wrongly accuse any honest sellers. This triggered already formed “Anti-Taobo Alliance” organizing varies attacks against Taobao.

One seller Feng said that day he received more than 20 notices, each corresponding to a transaction. The notice said, these 20 transaction reviews, ratings are suspected to be fraud. It advised him to inspect these reviews and delete them in time. If disagree with the automatic results he can keep these transactions, on August 6^th there will be manual inspection on these transactions.

Seller said after each purchase transaction, the buyer will give evaluation of the buy base on the transaction experience. The more “praise” seller gets the more creditable the seller is, “this also means the business of the shop will be better”. In order to earn higher credit rating, some sellers hire people to deliberately fabricate false “praises”, in the Industry commonly known as “brushing credit”. Taobao’s operation is targeted to these “brushing credit” etc. dishonest actions.

“But all of my transactions are real, why do they suspect me of fraud?” Feng and 10,000 other sellers with the same question setup the “Anti-Taobao Alliance” to oppose “honesty self-inspection”.

One seller against the “honesty self-inspection” operation Ms Huang said the original intention of Taobao may be good, however in this operation Taobao seems to suppress smaller sellers and help the larger sellers. She said, all the shops been closed are almost all small sellers. Another issue is Taobao recently started to provide a premium service called “Direct Train” which helps store advertise their product to a targeted audience. Of course seller needs to pay a premium fee to join the service. She claims the larger stores which spent the money on this service were all not closed down.

Many sellers have the same opinion took revenge on the larger stores which still in operation. They bit on the products but do not pay, and the shipping address for these products is address of Taobao headquarter in Hangzhou. Buyer’s name is filled with founder CEO of Taobao Jack Ma (马云) .

Anti-Taobao Alliance started a series of retaliatory action, the “Click Gate” incident is to fiercely click on targeted Taobao products. They even released “Anti-Taobao”, “Direct Train killer” etc. software programs.

People say you can find just about anything made fake (Shanzhai) in China. How about universities? Guangdong province education department issued a solemn statement: recently 2 universities “Southern University” and “Hua Nan College of Industry and Commerce” appeared on the internet were total hoax. Police is investigating at the moment. Right now is the season of school admissions, Province education department warns the graduating students to be alert of these internet enrolment frauds.

This year right before the college entrance examination, a so called “Southern University” (http://www.gzuedu.com) appeared in university BBS. This website was made like the real thing. Not only school information but school news, departments, faculty resources, admission requirements etc. were all made up like the real thing. It also said the school is located in Guangzhou University city, but many netizens questioned “University has ten schools, when was there a ‘Southern University’?”

Soon after, many netizens discovered another school “Hua Nan College of Industry and Commerce” (www.hngsedu.com), this website used almost the same text and pictures as a real school “Nan Hua College of Industry and Commerce” (http://www.nhic.edu.cn/) except for the contact phone number. Do you see the difference? The first 2 characters were switched, “Hua Nan” vs. “Nan Hua” (华南 vs.南华).

Another college had it worse. “Guangzhou International Economics College” The school website is cloned to another site (www.hnswedu.cn) and their entire enrollment information were cloned and being used to enroll students. What is funny is the fake school is actually called “Kelong Guangzhou International Economics College” Kelong = clone.

Guangdong province education department issued the statement, “Southern University”, “Hua Nan College of Industry and Commerce” and “Kelong Guangzhou International Economics College” are all fake schools. Reporter learned, police still do not know whether any students or parents actually fell for these fake sites yet, but they are investigating.

“Southern University” and “Kelong Guangzhou International Economics College” websites are not accessible anymore but “Hua Nan College of Industry and Commerce” site is still up and running.

How to Identify Fake Chicken Eggs

Not long ago people discovered fake chicken eggs being produced and sold in China. So if you are in China be very careful buying eggs, don’t buy the fake ones! This post from 39Net teaches you how to identify fake chicken eggs from the real ones.

Fake egg’s shell is made of calcium carbonate. Egg yolk and egg white are made of sodium alginate, alum, gelatin, eatable calcium chloride and then add water and food coloring. First pour a set amount of sodium alginate into warm water and mix it into egg white like shape, then mix it with gelatin together with benzoic acid, alum and other chemicals to make the egg white. Egg yolk is just adding lemon yellow food coloring. Together with calcium chloride to form egg mixture into the mold to produce the egg membrane. Egg shell is made of paraffin wax, gypsum powder, calcium carbonate and other materials.

Fake egg is full of chemicals, the main ingredient calcium alginate, at most is a gel. Alum, gelatin etc are only as additives, auxiliary agents. There are national standards on the use of additives; the amount of them is clearly defined. In the artificial eggs they have become the major components; they are not beneficial to the human body. Artificial egg has little or no nutrition value compare with the real egg.

How to identify fake eggs: After opening the egg, egg white and egg yolk will soon mix together.

1. Fake egg’s shell is a little shinier than the real egg, but it is not very noticeable.

2. When touch the fake egg by hand, it feels a little rougher than the real egg.

4. Real egg smells a little like raw meat.

The production of raw materials

Mainly are sodium alginate aqueous solution of calcium chloride and other chemical materials

Let’s calculate: 1kg of real egg worth about 6.5 Yuan. 1kg of sodium alginate only cost about 42 Yuan can make 150kg of fake eggs, plus other costs, 1kg of fake egg only cost about 0.55 Yuan to make.

Use sodium alginate which has been soaked in aqueous, adjusting the concentration, stirring evenly. Soon it will look slightly white and transparent, and should have the same viscosity as the real egg white. This is the main part of the “egg”. Separate part of this liquid and add a small amount of lemon yellow food coloring, adjust the color depth to look like the color of egg yolk. This is now the prototype of the “egg yolk”.

Fix the “egg yolk”

Then, pure the liquid into egg yolk shaped container, and promptly add calcium chloride dissolved in water. The outside of “Egg yolk” rapidly solidify and form a layer of transparent material. After one minute, “egg yolk” is formed.

Pour “egg yolk” into “egg shell”

Put solidified artificial egg yolk into artificial egg white, the egg’s basic “content” is done.
Finally put “egg yolk” and “egg white” into “egg shell” made of calcium carbonate. After seal the opening, an “egg” produced by raw material and chemicals is done. The entire production is less than 5 minutes, which is much more efficient than waiting for a hen to lay an egg.

Pour “egg white liquid” into the mold about 1/3 full, then put in the “egg yolk”, and add some more “egg white”. Put this into calcium chloride water again and shake it slightly. A whole egg without the shell will start to appear. Then let the “naked egg” harden for an hour, then wash it and dry it.

Put a sewing line through the “egg” and use it to dip the egg into liquid made of beeswax and calcium carbonate. Immerse and repeat several times, until a dry shell is formed then immerse it in cold water and pull the sewing line out. Now you put an “egg shell” coat on the “fake egg” and you are done.
