Photographer captures firefighter losing his life cleaning up Dalian oil spills

July 16, 2010, an oil pipeline explosion accident happened in Dalian, the fire was put out after 15 hours of burning.  The cause of the accident was still under investigation.  According to CCTV, about 400,000 gallon of oil was spilled into the Yellow Sea, which heavily polluted over 160 square kilometers of the sea water. (The BP oil spills at the Gulf of Mexico was over 100 million gallons)

(From Daqi) A photographer, in 334 seconds, captured the death of a firefighter when cleaning up the oil spill. 

Out of curiosity, a photographer from Zhejiang aimed his camera at the Dalian firefighters cleaning up the oil spill in the ocean.  He said, “never thought he would have died…”

78-year-old construction worker crushed to death by excavator

Recently, this set of chilling photos was circulating the Chinese websites and forums with the title “Peasant worker crushed into meat pie by excavator, where is justice”. Was it a murder or another housing demolition gone bad? Netizents speculated.  Then I found the news report of this incident on Netease.

After the Chinese New Year, Tiantai (天台) County, Zhejiang Province became the hot topic of the public, from ordinary folks to the media, the concern over the 5 missing children (later found drowned in the local fishery) was still not yet over, another 3 children with the last name Cai (蔡) died of unnatural causes.

The incidents were amplified in forums like MOP and Tianya because of the bizarre coincidences: all of them had the last name Cai (蔡), all of them are children and all of them died of unnatural causes one after another.

Dead body of child infected with H1N1 abandoned in a ditch

December 9, 2009, in Guangzhou, a 3-year-old boy’s dead body was found abandoned in a dry ditch on the side of Guangchong highway. The boy named Zhou Hongdu was severely infected with H1N1 virus. The news caused quite a stir when once broke out. Many media continuously tracked this matter for days; Guangzhou residents showed great concerns and raised heated discussions about the incident. It has been listed as one of the top ten health news incidents in 2009. The incident resulted in many “questions” which still had no answers to until this day, some netizens called it Guangzhou’s “number 1 mystery” in 2009. Yesterday, Guangzhou health and public security departments issued written statements of the incident investigation. Health department said, the hospital’s treatment was effective, and the discharging was in compliance with the law and regulation; however this does not mean their work is without flaws. Public security department said, “There has not been evidence for suspecting relevant parties of any crime”.

The kidnappings and killings of children in Shenzhen, the truth and reactions

[NetEase] Recently, there were rumors in the Shenzhen community with news about elementary students being kidnapped and killed, causing students and parents to live in fear. Reporter learned from the Shenzhen police that since the second half of this year, three child kidnapping cases had happened in Futian district in Shenzhen, and one of the cases involved a death of one of the children hostages. There were also many kidnapping cases in Nanshan district. At least one child was killed there as well. Shenzhen police already decided to undertake a special 80-day activity to maintain order around the campus in the city.

It’s not that we didn’t ask for help, but there was no one helping us. Singer Chen Lin Jumped off a Building to her Death at age 39

October 31 2009, mainland singer Chen Lin (陈琳) jumped to her death from Dongba Olympic Garden building 701 9th floor (in Beijing). She was 39. Her current husband Zhang Chaofeng (张超峰) when contacted by the reporter said “I feel terrible, even have difficulty breathing”.

Chen Lin’s body was found in a garden under the residential building at around 6 in the morning. She was “wearing a surgical mask, a gray jacket, jeans, a hat and a pair of red leather shoes. Her chin was covered with a piece of white gauze.”

The Death of an Overseas Returnee

Haigui (海归) – Overseas Returnee: People returned to their home country (China) after finishing overseas study, mostly in order to start enterprises. This term is quite popular in mainland China. Because Haigui (海归) has the same pronunciation as “sea turtle” (海龟), therefore the use of “sea turtle” also referred to this group of people.

Police released the film details of the kidnapper that was killed by police in Chongqing.

[Video] On October 26th, Chongqing Shapingba district police station received a phone call reporting a crime. Police quickly rushed to the scene and found a middle-aged woman named Zhen lying in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed multiple times.

Wal-Mart: Violence and Lies

The night of September 2nd, Yu Xiaochun (余小春) who was viciously beaten by Wal-Mart workers, passed away after three days of rescuing efforts by the doctors. Since the exposure of the incident, Wal-Mart murder case was the hot topic of the internet forums.

On August 30th 7 pm, 37-year-old Yu Xiaochun went to Wal-Mart supercenter in Jingdezhen plaza. When she walked out of the store, five Wal-Mart employees (four men and one woman) chased up to her. They accused Yu of stealing and demanded her to show receipt. Because those guys were not wearing Wal-Mart uniforms, Yu snatched the receipt back. As a result, five employees beat her up senselessly to the ground. They would not even stop went Yu’s family was kneeling at the scene begging. Eventually the police showed up and rushed her to the hospital. But Yu still passed away 3 days later. 2009-09-16 Guangzhou Daily reported in “Parents getting a divorce, daughter kills both parents and cut them into pieces

Evening of September 11th in a rental apartment in Zhongshan City (中山市沙溪镇云汉村) a man and a woman were killed and cruelly cut into pieces, the remains were still in the room. Until September 15th 8 am, their corpses were discovered by the landlord. Police came to the scene after receiving the call. They took the daughter of the victims in for questioning. Police initial investigation stated that the daughter killed both parents and cut them into pieces because her parents were going through a divorce.

Shenzhen University Beauty Committed Suicide, but Why?

Yesterday morning. Shenzhen university third year female student leaped from the top of her home building ended her 19-year-old life. It was not yet four month since she wrote on her blog “Cherish and love life”. Police have determined Yang Jing Qian (杨倩) committed suicide by jumping off the building. Her family and friends said she have made mistakes during the welcoming of 2009 new students at school and was criticized by the teacher severely. However Yang’s teacher advisor denied having criticized her.

Female College Graduate Beaten and Killed in Busy Street over Dispute

A 27 year old female college graduate serving as a village official was beaten and killed in a China’s crowded street by a man who was riding an electric tricycle at the time. The suspect does not previously know the victim. He committed this violent act all because of a simple argument. After committing the crime the murder suspect flee the scene. This incident led to huge responses on the Chinese internet. With tens and thousands of netizen’s help in 3 days the police have already found the murder suspect and brought him into custody.
