After his failure in the Great Leap Forward, Mao gave up the Sate presidency in 1959. Liu Shaoqi then became the president of China. However Mao launched Cultural Revolution which overthrew the Liu government because Mao saw Liu as a threat to his power. Liu was put into prison in 1968 and was labeled China’s premier ‘Capitalist-roader’ and a traitor. He later died in prison in late 1969. China was without a president yet Mao refused to reinstate the presidency. Some people say the reason is because he did not want people to remember the reason of his power struggle with Liu Shaoqi is to take over the presidency. Power struggle of presidency continued, Lin Biao China’s number two figure advocated for the reinstatement of the position of President, with Mao taking the position and himself becoming Vice-President. Later Mao saw Lin Biao as a treat to his power also, never agreed with his proposal.

[Netease] Recently, an animated video called “See Through” (“打,打个大西瓜” direct translation is “Hit, Hit the big watermelon”) has been red hot on the Chinese internet, with shocking images and engaging content, this video has been called the best animated film made in China. [NetEase] It’s the new semester, outside the wall of a Wuhan’s college there is the concerning “most awesome” university dormitory. “Wang Hao Feng Focus” (王浩峰聚焦) went to the scene to inspect and saw a five story building rubs shoulders with a high-voltage tower. There were groups of college students going in and out. On the 3rd, 4th and 5th floor there were students sticking their heads out of the windows looking around from time to time. One college student said these floors were occupied by college students.

2009-09-16 Guangzhou Daily reported in “Parents getting a divorce, daughter kills both parents and cut them into pieces”
Evening of September 11th in a rental apartment in Zhongshan City (中山市沙溪镇云汉村) a man and a woman were killed and cruelly cut into pieces, the remains were still in the room. Until September 15th 8 am, their corpses were discovered by the landlord. Police came to the scene after receiving the call. They took the daughter of the victims in for questioning. Police initial investigation stated that the daughter killed both parents and cut them into pieces because her parents were going through a divorce.

Lou Jing (娄婧) a mixed Shanghainese girl (half black and half Chinese) became popular overnight because her mother and she were viciously attacked by the Chinese netizens’ nasty and racist comments. Yesterday morning. Shenzhen university third year female student leaped from the top of her home building ended her 19-year-old life. It was not yet four month since she wrote on her blog “Cherish and love life”. Police have determined Yang Jing Qian (杨倩) committed suicide by jumping off the building. Her family and friends said she have made mistakes during the welcoming of 2009 new students at school and was criticized by the teacher severely. Doctoress (women doctor), a group which is often the subject of talks in China, is also labeled with names like dinosaur, difficult to get married etc. Woman with PhD has been used as a symbol, standing on the cusp of the public opinions. This recent viral post “Beijing University Vice-principle advises a Good Friend, Don’t let your Daughter Attend PhD Program in China” again stirred up the discussion on possible hidden rules of doctoress. Despite there is no proof of validity of the content, the post has spread onto almost every Chinese website and forums. Most of the Chinese netizens believed the post is so ridiculous and it has to be a made up rumor. They also criticized Chinese media being irresponsible for publishing outrageous articles with no proof.

“Shanghai Black Girl Lou Jing (娄婧)” became popular on the Chinese internet because of the brutal comments and attacks online over her ethnic background and her skin color. Readers also strongly commented on the blog post 2 weeks ago on the issues of racial discrimination in China as well as the moral debate over her mother’s “extramarital affair”.
